As the ISRF’s Academic Events & Fellowship Co-ordinator you will be contributing to the Foundation’s day-to-day activities, with both academic and administrative responsibilities.
On the one hand, you will be actively contributing to the academic work of the Foundation: handling academic enquiries from prospective applicants, recruiting external assessors (peer reviewers) for grant applications, organising and hosting ISRF Events (such as workshops, conferences, and seminars etc.), liaising with ISRF Fellows and associates, and supporting the work of the Director of Research and the Academic Editor.
On the other hand, you will be supporting administrative processes within the office, which may include database and spreadsheet management, website content management, social media posting, and supporting the work of the Administrator.
In this role you will typically work from the London office. However, the role also involves occasional travel, both within the UK and across Europe.
This is a uniquely varied and wide-ranging role within a small team, which will offer the opportunity to develop a variety of skills and interests, both academically and administratively. There will be significant room for academic specialisation and intellectual input into the ISRF’s programme of activities, and opportunities to engage with a diverse range of academics across multiple social science & humanities disciplines. As such, the post would be ideal for a PhD holder with expertise in one of the Foundation’s core research interests (see below), as well as an interest in broader, interdisciplinary social sciences, arts and humanities.
The Independent Social Research Foundation (ISRF) is a public benefit foundation dedicated to advancing the social sciences through the promotion of new modes of inquiry and the development of interdisciplinary expertise and methods, and through better understanding of social entities and processes.
To achieve this objective the ISRF provide a series of funding opportunities, enters into partnerships with academic institutions and supports research activities that promote development across the social sciences and humanities.
The Executive Team, based in London, is responsible for the implementation of academic programmes as approved by the Foundation Board. The Foundation is advised by an Academic Advisory Board comprised of leading international academics from across the social sciences.
The Foundation subscribes to a code of ethics covering its governance, its adherence to legal and good practice requirements including equality, confidentiality and financial control, and its academic values of fairness, transparency and independence.
Aside from competitively funding individual researchers to complete their own research projects, the ISRF also runs several in-house research programmes. These include programmes on the following themes: (i) The Future of Higher Education in Europe; (ii) The global politics and economics of the green transition; (iii) Race, racism, and racial capitalism; (iv) AI, Large Language Models, and the future of the humanities; (v) The affective dimension of social and political processes.
The Academic Events & Fellowship Co-ordinator would work closely with the other three members of the Executive Team, which currently comprises: Director of Research Professor Chris Newfield, Academic Editor Dr Lars Cornelissen, and Administrator Stuart Wilson.
